October/November 2013

Chers adhérents, chers amis,

October is traditionally a very busy month for us as it announces our biggest event of the year, Passport to France!

As you will have seen from our beautiful invitation and the emails we have sent on the subject, this year's celebration promises to be the biggest and most festive yet. Thanks to your enthusiastic participation our VIP section is sold out, but a few tickets are still available (for the time being at least!) to join the event from 6:30pm. Remember: the event has sold out two years in a row!

This year's event boasts a fantastic line-up of Chefs, vendors, and entertainment, and as always a raffle for two round-trip tickets to Paris on Air France. Newcomers include several chefs extraordinaires such as Carrie Nahabedian from Brindille, Elissa Narow from Vie, and Doug Psaltis from Paris Club. Also new this year is our VIP Sneak Preview starting at 5:30pm, and an all-new Spirits Lounge featuring Chicago's own Armagnac Ambassador and multiple Armagnac and food pairings (with Pastoral cheese or Vanille's Armagnac macarons!). You can learn more about participating Chefs and our incredible silent auction lots- and purchase tickets!- online at www.facc-chicago.com/passport-to-franceVenez nombreux !

I would like to take this opportunity to thank this year's Passport to Francecorporate sponsors- the event would not be possible without your support. Un grand merci to Deloitte Tax, LLP; Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy, LLP; WeiserMazars, LLP; Ingredion Inc.; Newedge USA, LLC; Veolia Environnement; Bruno Boucher, Inc.; BPI group; DSML Executive Search; Fifth Third Bank; Mesirow Financial; SDV USA, Inc.; and American Airlines.

Mid-October I participated in the CCI Paris Ile-de-France e-Commerce forum at the Bourse de Commerce de Paris. I was joined by one of our new Board members, Mr. Philippe Blanchard of Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg LLP, and my colleague at the FACC Pacific Northwest Mr. Jack Cowan in speaking with French companies about doing e-commerce in the United States.

On October 22 we hosted our first Business Breakfast Seminar of the season, "Latest Developments in Immigration in the U.S. and France" with Mssrs. Michael Turansick and Kevin Aiston of FACC-Chicago Board Member Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy, LLP. Photos from the event are available online, as is thepresentation. And this week for our November seminar, "Soft Restructuring in France and Other Updates on French Employment Issues", we will welcome new FACC-Chicago member Mr. Nicolas Sauvage of SEA Avocats, based in Paris. The event will take place Thursday, November 14 at the Hilton Suites Chicago/Magnificent Mile.

We had a great turnout at our October Members Luncheon, where we were joined by many members of the FACC-Chicago Executive Committee. Photos from the lunch are available online. In October we also enjoyed our last Professionals Networking cocktail on The Ivy's Sky Terrace. Many thanks to those who joined us despite the chill! Photos are available on our website.

November marks an exciting new line-up of locations for Professionals Networking, starting with Paris Club on Wednesday, November 20. Join us for this sneak peak of one of our participating restaurants for Passport to France- registration is available online. In December we will meet at theChristkindlmarket at Daley Plaza, and in the new year we will be moving toThe Drake Hotel's splendid Palm Court. Further details on our holiday cocktail line-up to follow.

Also BRAVO to the Lycée Français de Chicago for the success of its 9th annual traditional Fall French Market last weekend.

Thank you in advance for your continued participation and support of the Chamber, and we look forward to welcoming you to Passport to France on November 21! One week to go!

Bien amicalement,
